DVANB

The Domestic Violence Association of New Brunswick (DVANB) is an incorporated non-profit organization working to address the issue of domestic and intimate partner violence (DIPV) in NB through advocacy and awareness activities. DVANB itself does not provide frontline services to survivors of DIPV. Instead, DVANB represents and supports our 12 member organizations. Our members provide a wide range of direct supports to those who have experienced DIPV.

Our Mission

DVANB is a network of transition houses and second stage facilities in New Brunswick based on the feminist principles of justice, equality, and peace, dedicated to the elimination of violence against women and their children through awareness raising and by working to ensure quality services designed to empower and support women.

Our Role

DVANB was formally founded in January 2009 in response to the need for consistent, effective networking and service provisions. The focus of our work includes public awareness, establishing standards in the sector, and advocacy for systems change. We plan our work and develop resources in response to the concerns that New Brunswick transition houses, second stage housing, and domestic violence outreach programs are hearing from the women and children who use their services. We work with government, other community organizations, and academic institutions to implement best practices across the DIPV sector.

Our Community

DVANB seeks to improve the lives of all women in New Brunswick affected by DIPV. Certain groups of women experience disproportionately high rates of DIPV, such as Indigenous women, 2SLGBTQIA+ people, racialized women, women with disabilities, newcomer women, senior women, and low-income women. We take the specific experiences and needs of these groups into consideration by applying a Gender-based Analysis Plus lens to our work. We also strive to ensure these groups are well represented within our project activities through collaboration and consultation.
